We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.
Monarch Wellness is an integrative health & wellness center based on a private psychotherapy practice founded by Kimberly Rodgers, LCSW, RPT-S. Kimberly began the organization as Monarch Therapy in 2008, with the intention of having a small private practice to provide individual and family counseling services to local families.
As referrals increased beyond Kimberly’s scheduling capacity and some clients preferred to wait for an opening rather than be referred out, the practice grew with additional therapists in 2009.
While training as a yoga teacher to incorporate into therapy sessions with individuals and families, Kimberly was exposed to many other modalities each therapeutic in their own way. Through the experience, she became even more aware of the importance of the interconnection of all pieces in the healing process for optimal mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. Clients were encouraged to explore yoga and other integrative services further, and make time for self-care while developing healthy coping skills for stress relief and self-regulation.
The need for easily accessible mainstream mind/body integration to further complement psychotherapy services became more apparent. Research continued to validate that therapeutic approaches connecting mind, body, and soul, and addressing the complete neurological system (including integration of right and left hemispheres of the brain) allow for more comprehensive long-lasting healing beyond traditional talk therapy by accessing the subconscious at a deeper level. Outside referrals continued to be made and clients often replied they felt intimidated about going to a yoga studio, or felt fear in opening up to someone else.
Thus, our metamorphosis continued as Kimberly felt guided to create a comprehensive space. We fully expanded into a unique specialized integrative center in January 2012. Our services became more complete as we partnered with other integrative community experts and added child and family yoga, adult yoga, laughter yoga, meditation, restorative sound, integrative relaxation, aromatherapy and other therapeutic products.
We further transformed in June 2014 to allow participants in counseling to receive reduced rates for classes, groups, and workshops. Our office transitioned to a small home-like building in the heart of Naples in November 2014, allowing our services to be more accessible to the community and more space for expanded classes and groups. We fully transformed into Monarch Wellness to capture the extent of our services and approach more comprehensively, and we maintain a close partnership with other community organizations, including offering FREE Laughter Yoga and Mindful Relaxation, co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association of Southwest Florida. By the fall of 2016, we expanded with an additional satellite office in East Naples/Marco Island area, in response to requests for more easily accessible services across Collier County, Florida.
