The Company that Plays Together, Stays Together

The Company that Plays Together, Stays Together

Whether you work for a small company or a large conglomerate, bonding on some level with your coworkers is important. Seeing each other as more than just another employee and as a fellow human being can up the happiness factor in the workplace.

Companies that encourage interpersonal interaction have a higher retention rate because the employees feel more connected and more invested in the success and future of that business.

How do they achieve this?

Letting your employees know that you value them and that they are important as individuals is important. No one likes to feel replaceable. We all spend an average of 40 hours a week at work. That is the majority of our time. In order for it to be an overall positive experience stress has to be managed, positivity and productivity encouraged and it helps to be working towards common goals.

Taking time out of the busy work schedule to help connect and reconnect your staff is well worth the effort in the long run. It helps to maintain and cultivate happier more satisfied workers who will be far more likely to stay long term in their positions with the company.

Monarch Wellness provides customizable workshops in accordance with your company’s goals. Visit http://monarchwellness.net/corporate-wellness/ or call (239) 231-3208 for more information or to schedule an event.

Instilling Self Esteem in Children

Instilling Self Esteem in Children

Kids look to their parents to see who they are as new little people in this world. Their parent’s feelings, actions, and word greatly help to shape the way that that child views themselves. Ask yourself – What am I teaching my child?

Do your words build them up or tear them down?

Are they encouraging?

Are they loving?

Are they supportive?

Do you discipline when needed with a fair hand?

There are no black and white/right or wrong hard lines on parenting. No two parents are the same. There are some guidelines though that should be followed if you wish to raise a self-thinker with good self-esteem.

  1. Don’t coddle – By doing everything for them they cannot learn to be self-sufficient. It may be tempting to help them do things like solve puzzles or homework by doing it for them, but by doing that it teaches dependence on you and instills a feeling of “maybe I am not smart enough.”
  1. Don’t talk down to your kids – regardless of age, kids are far from stupid. Being condescended to feels bad and degrading as an adult and it is no different for a child. Speak to them at their level but like an equal.
  1. Let them answer for themselves – If someone asks “Oh, how old is Billy?” Even if they directed that question to you, turn it over to them. Look at your child and ask “She is asking you a question. How old are you?” – Unless they are very young, they know how old they are. They are proud to answer questions and know answers. Allow them to show off what they have learned.
  1. Teach them to stand up for themselves – Bullying has become an enormous problem in recent years, but what we need to accept is that it isn’t just the bullies who are at fault. While of course, you do not ever want to teach children that fighting is the answer to problems, teaching them that no one has the right to treat them badly and that it is perfectly ok to stand up and defend yourself is key. It instills a core belief of “I am worthy.”
  1. Teach them empathy and kindness towards others – being able to put yourself in another person’s shoes and show compassion is vital to being a good person who feels on a core level good about themselves. The best way to teach this, and possibly the only way to teach this, is to lead by example.

The child based programs at Monarch Wellness help boost self-esteem and teach kids interpersonal skills. To learn more please visit www.monarchwellness.net

Grief – A Very Personal Experience

Grief – A Very Personal Experience

Everyone deals with grief differently. There is no right or wrong way to grieve and every death will affect you differently based on the relationship and connection you had with that person. The impact can also vary based on the circumstances surrounding the passing. Sudden or traumatic deaths can be far harder to handle than the natural aging process.

The most common responses to grief happen in stages.

Shock/Denial – The news of your loved one’s passing feels surreal, almost like a dream you cannot seem to wake up from. It becomes a slow seeping in of truth over time, a protection method so that the full impact doesn’t slam you all at once.

Anger – Anger covers pain. Anger is easier to deal with than the depth of pain loss can cause. Anger may come at the loss itself, at doctors, God, family members, or others. Anger may even be directed at the self. Anger is something to hold on to in many cases…the connection of anger can feel better than no connection at all. Don’t rush it, just allow yourself to feel whatever you feel, and know it will eventually fade and you will be able to move forward.

Depression – Depression usually comes when you take a good realistic look at the present moment. The present without your former friend or family member. The reality of the absence settles in and your heart hurts. Life may seem meaningless and you may feel lost. Antisocial time is often needed for recuperation. Allow it, but be extra gentle to yourself – do something each day that makes you feel even just a little bit better. Even if it’s just making a cup of tea you really enjoy.

Acceptance – This is not to be confused with being “ok with” the what happened. No one is ever OK with loss. Acceptance is more about acknowledging the reality of what has taken place and finding some semblance of peace in it. This may come and go, good and bad days. Over time the good days will outnumber the bad. We can begin to live again at this stage, remembering the good with that person and allowing the grief and missing to fade.

These are not the only emotions you may experience and there is no regimented order. Allowing yourself to be genuine and feel whatever may come up for you is the quickest path to healing. Grief may be experienced through major life events other than death as well. Divorce, ending of a close relationship, loss of a job or home – all may be felt as loss in much the same way.

Laughter and Why It’s So Important…

So, I couple years ago, I came across a yoga class called “Laughter Yoga”. I knew at some point, I had to check it out. My first thought was “what is THIS?” I mean, with all the different styles of yoga out there today, I have to say it had me curious, to say the […]

5 Methods of Coping with Stress

5 Methods of Coping with Stress

It has been said that happiness is not the absence of problems, it’s the ability to deal with them. Stress is unavoidable in daily life, but we do have a choice of how we handle and react to stressors. Having a plan before life goes haywire can help us stay on course. Here are a few tips to help you keep your cool.

  1. Stay at cause rather than being at effect. You have no control over issues that arise, what you do have control over is how you react. No matter how chaotic of a situation you are in, take a deep breath and step back for 30 seconds’ minimum. There is no rule that says you have to jump the second someone else’s emergency demands it. Allow some of the initial adrenaline to subside before making any snap decisions or choices as to how to proceed.

  1. Take Time for Yourself. Many of us rush around in a blur. We take care of our spouses, our kids, our job requirements, and we put ourselves and our needs dead last. This leaves us feeling frazzled, exhausted and worn out. It can leave you with nothing left to give. Realize that you are the most important person in your life. Take the time to be nice to yourself.

  1. Deep breathing relaxes the body and the mind. Pause during your day, take 5-10 deep breaths. Breathe in for a count of 5. Hold the air in for a count of 5. Exhale for one more count of 5. Repeat 5 to 10 times. Repeat daily or as often as needed.

  1. Say No. People who are comfortable saying “No” to requests they really do not wish to do fall far higher on the happiness scale. We all like to help others, but when chronic people pleasing causes you to feel stressed out, it can affect your health both mentally and physically. Saying no to some requests is really saying yes to yourself.

  1. Pamper Yourself. Get a massage, take a hot bath, meditate, go for a walk, take a self-growth or improvement class, whatever makes you feel good, we highly suggest doing that at regular intervals. All of these activities raise your mood and lower your stress.

  1. Hug and or Kiss someone you care about. Hugging and kissing release oxytocin, the love hormone.

The Hypnosis Experience

The Hypnosis Experience

When many people think of the word hypnosis, visions of stage performers come to mind. Audience participants doing silly things like clucking like chickens or being made to perform silly dances. Stage performers scope out those they feel are most willing to “play along” – hypnotic suggestions are never against anyone’s will or without their knowledge. This is done in the name of entertainment only and is in no way indicative of therapeutic hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation in which experienced hypnotherapists are able to help the client access their intuitive and subconscious parts of the mind in order to find answers and healing.

During a session, the client will either sit or lay down making sure that they are comfortable and their body fully supported. The hypnotherapist will vocally guide you into a trance state of deep relaxation similar to a meditative state. You will feel very serene and the tension will leave your body during the hypnosis. Your therapist will act as your guide helping to facilitate transformation of thought processes, emotions, and unwanted behaviors. You are always fully aware of everything that is taking place.

If you have a problem or issue that you cannot seem to break free hypnosis is a wonderful option. It gives direct access to the subconscious mind. Questions asked by the guide you may think you do not know, yet suddenly an answer may surface without a second thought. The process works so long as you set your intent to allow it to do so.

Hypnosis can be used for a huge array of reasons – from trauma, substance abuse, depression, eating disorders, emotional and behavioral issues, relationship problems, phobias, smoking and weight loss to anxiety and fear.

Abortion Healing

Abortion Healing

Going through an abortion can be an incredibly emotionally trying experience. Though the life never came to fruition, attachment can sometimes already be formed in the mind and heart of the mother.

Many women find consolation through support groups formed of others who have been through the same experience. Being able to safely open up and share can help to work through the natural grieving process that can accompany the loss. This is done without judgement in a safe space. No matter if the abortion was recent or years ago feelings of sadness, guilt, and loss can linger. Until they are dealt with and able to be released full healing isn’t always possible.

Support groups can help you learn healthy ways to move forward with forgiveness and compassion for yourself and help to heal underlying emotional turmoil. This allows you to move forward in peace with a level of acceptance and truly get on with your life.

Monarch Wellness here in Naples, Florida offers an Abortion Healing Support Group.

Sand Tray Therapy

Sand Tray Therapy

As children, many of us had sandboxes to play in. We would bring in shovels, cars, trucks, spoons, dolls, you name it. We were only limited by our imaginations. As adults’ play is often frowned upon as childish or a waste of time, when in reality, that could not be further from the truth. To play and to imagine is to be an active creator in one’s own life.

Sand is a part of nature. It is earth. Much like gardening and getting your hands in the soil, the feeling of it is relaxing and soothing.

Sand Tray Therapy captures that feeling of oneness with the world by bringing that connection to the earth indoors. Sand Tray, also sometimes called Sand Play Therapy, allows the builder to create their own little self-contained world representative of their own lives both inner and outer.

How does Sand Tray Therapy work?

Clients can be of any age, child to adult. They are free to choose who and whatever pleases them to fill and inhabit this little world. Animals, plants, buildings, vehicles, figures, and more. The builder has complete control. Once a scene is set often the builder finds his or her own answers through the visual story created.

Why does this work?

The created sand scene gives both the client and therapist a sense of what is going on subconsciously. Though we may not know consciously, the hidden solutions or underlying patterns, our subconscious and higher self always does.

“Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain.”  G. Jung

Neuroscience says that communication between the right and left hemispheres of the brain is vital to fully process experiences including traumatic events. Until an event is fully processed it is often unable to be let go of allowing the client to move on in thought as well as action.

Therapies such as Sand Tray open the creative right side of the brain by allowing it to form this imaginary world without judgment or direction. Meanwhile, the logical left side of the brain translates the experience into an audible verbal language to help elaborate on and explain the scene. This is done in partnership with an objective, fully present therapist who can hold the healing space and often assist in translation and hopefully breakthroughs.
